Since February 2025, Iona has been working in partnership with her local primary school and ELCC, helping to breathe new life into their outdoor growing space. During this time, she has re-established the garden beds and polytunnel, creating a thriving, productive area for children to learn and explore. She has successfully secured funding and in-kind support from a range of community partners, including RenCan, Lochwinnoch Force for Nature, Shrubs to Suds, LEAP and the local Chatterbox.
Iona delivers regular workshops with nursery and P1 pupils, supports a lunchtime gardening group, and works alongside the monthly gardening committee to guide the garden’s development. Throughout all activities, she weaves in permaculture ethics and principles in practical, child-friendly ways. In addition, she coordinates monthly volunteer days, encouraging families and community members to get involved and take shared ownership of the space.

"First of all, a big thank you for how adaptable you were in pulling these sessions together at such short notice, and for accommodating to the “indoor” element of the growing group, that was such a great fit for our space and community needs.
Overall, your facilitation style was very well received. People noticed and valued your flexibility in giving more time to what sparked interest, the good balance between practice and theory, and the gentle, calm way you created a welcoming environment. You were really attentive to spotting needs in the room, kept time so well, and it was clear how knowledgeable you are."

Whether planting seeds, sharing stories, or nurturing young minds, she is always cultivating connection — to nature, to community and to possibility.
